La Cueva faced off with Cleveland for the 2022 APS Metro Championship on September 10th at Cibola High School. This game was a rematch of last years NMAA 5A Volleyball Championship which the Bears won. In similar fashion, La Cueva beat the Storm to recapture the Metro trophy that they had lost control of to Cibola in last years’ tournament.

Three sets was all the Bears needed, winning decisively 25-13, 26-16, and 25-16. Cleveland put up a fight early in the first two sets but La Cueva pulled away after stopping the Storm’s runs. The third set was all La Cueva as they cruised to yet another Metro championship.

La Cueva senior Ella Sanders led the game in kills with 14 and junior Tea Kaladjzic finished with 11. Karyna Werley ended the game with 36 assists. In an amazing defensive effort, La Cueva senior Annalisa Gallegos had 15 digs which is a season best for her. The Bears’ win puts them at 5-0 on the season.

In the third place match, Cibola took down Rio Rancho in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-21.
